A human figure possesses the neutrality of an artists lay-figure. When
it is situated within a plain white space, the compositional possibilities are
vast. This work explores the process of becoming - the apprehension and
delineation of the motif in the raw material. The setting is variously presented
as an actual environment and as a series of virtual ones - flat plane, cube, total
space, pure and absolute light. The human figure is a canvas of varying sizes
and surfaces upon which short bursts of abstract animations, light and fragments
of sound collude to project their various messages. As the piece progresses,
the figure begins to assume a variety of guises, as references to religious
iconography, nonfinito statuary, classical dance, cubist and minimalist painting
are all projected, perceived and lost.
